Africa Re hereby announces the vacancy for the position of Senior Accounts Officer in the Cairo (Egypt) Regional Office at the Support Staff category.
Reporting to the Assistant director of Finance & Administration, the Senior Accounts Officer will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
The duties of the Senior Accounts Officer will comprise amongst others:
• Maintain General Ledger by recording financial transactions, preparing journal entries, and maintaining the general ledger.
• Perform monthly intercompany reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist in preparing financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Analyze and explain variances between actual and budgeted figures.
• Participate in month-end, quarter–end and year-end closing processes and assist with year-end audits.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Work closely with other departments to resolve accounting discrepancies and provide financial insights.
• Efficiently code invoices, reconcile accounts, and close books monthly.
• Post journal entries for investment funds for distributions and interest payments.
• Coordinate and manage internal and external audit protocols.
• Prepare quarterly management financial reports and financial analysis for the various profit centers managed by the regional office.
• Ensure timely preparation of the company’s quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Assist in maintaining relationships with auditors.
• Prepare schedules and reports for the final annual audit for the Company’s accounts
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting and transaction processing.
• Monitor and enforce adherence to corporate accounting procedures and documentation standards.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and ensure proper capitalization and depreciation accounting.
• Utilize ERP systems and reporting tools to extract, analyze, and present financial data.
• Support implementation of new accounting software or modules, including testing and training
• Perform any other duty that may be assigned by Management.
The successful candidate shall be based in Cairo (Egypt).
• Good knowledge of re/insurance accounting (both Takaful and Conventional non-takaful)
• Exhibit strong organizational, planning and reporting skills
• Ability to work and communicate (oral/written) effectively with all levels of Management.
• Ability to work independently without close supervision and within established timeframes
• Ability to work in a bi-lingual multi-cultural environment.
• Ability to multitask and manage change
• Excellent Problem-solving skills (i.e., conceptual and analytical thinking).
• High level of Integrity.
• Computer literacy with good interactive knowledge of financial and insurance applications as well as other Microsoft Office Packages.
• Fluent in English and Arabic with working knowledge of French. Proficiency in all three languages is an added advantage.
• Proficient in business software tools – word, excel and basic reporting systems.
• Behavioral competencies required include – self-motivating, discipline, punctuality, reliability, team spirit, good analytical skill and interpersonal relationship
Applicants shall be holders of:
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, Economics, Commerce or any related discipline
• Minimum of seven (7) years post-graduation experience in similar roles preferably in the reinsurance industry, insurance industry, and financial services sector.
• Relevant working exposure in a multicultural environment for at least four (4) years in the African and Middle East context.
• Experience in the reinsurance / insurance Industry is necessary.
• Experience in the Takaful reinsurance / insurance Industry is a plus.
• Knowledge of Insurance / Reinsurance practices will be an added advantage.
• Working experience with an external audit firm will be an added advantage.
• Previous experience in auditing is an advantage.
